3 Sporting Events To See Before I Die
Every true sports fan has a "bucket-list" of events they must attend before the inevitable occurs. Such a list is highly subjective, and lively discussions revolving around the top sporting events is sure to ensue when one reveals their preferences. I feel that a sporting contest doesn’t necessarily have to be a championship to be worthy of my list. Rather, I think the atmosphere and frenzy that surrounds these events is worth them being on my list.
The Masters
Every spring, many of the world’s best golfers descend on Augusta, Georgia to play in the Masters Golf Tournament. This is a golfing "major", so it could be considered a championship, but the reason that I have to see this event is because of the breathtaking aesthetics of the Augusta National Golf Club’s course. The Masters occurs around the second week of April every year, and the native dogwoods and azaleas are in full-bloom. This backdrop creates a unique feel for a tournament that is often characterized by dramatic play.
The Rose Bowl
This college football bowl game displays the tradition and spectacle that are truly characteristic of what makes college athletics unique. This event is list-worthy because the weather in southern California around the first of the year is spectacular and the Rose Bowl Stadium is truly one of those special venues that must be seen to be believed, no matter who is playing.
An NFL Playoff game in Green Bay
Although football playoff tickets are notoriously hard to get, I will make every effort to see an NFL playoff game in Lambeau Field in Green Bay before I die. It may be bone-chilling as far as the weather, but the flow of adrenaline will keep me warm at least until halftime. This event is as classic as it gets for professional sports and I hope that Green Bay will keep this stadium around for many more years so that I can witness a playoff game there.
Tickets for sports events of the magnitude of what is mentioned above may cost an arm and a leg, but one cannot put a price on being a part of history. It may take me the rest of my life to realize the dream of going to all these monumental events, but once I do, I can undoubtedly rest in peace.
